The Paper entitles Retention of women employees in
five star hotels of western Maharashtra makes an attempt in understanding the
problems faced and retention of women employee through women friendly policies /strategies
of hotel. The sample consisted of 300 women managers from 5-Star Hotels in
Mumbai, Pune, Nashik and Aurangabad. They were mainly in the age group of 30-40
married, with under graduate degree and had more than 1 years of experience in
the industry. They work mainly in the level of low level management in their
organization. The data for this study was gathered through questionnaires. Both
multiple regression analysis equation and one way analysis of variance (ANOVA)
are used to facilitate data interpretation and verify the relationship among
each of variables. The research found that there are 5 variables (Time, Job
environment, Job Stress and other factors that are significantly related to
retention. The most important factor influencing the retentions is the boss
support, family friendly policies, time factor. The unsupportive boss added to
the problem of the women employee, the family unfriendly policies and odd, long
inflexible time lead to work family conflict which is one of the major reason
of women leaving the jobs.
From the discussion of the finding several
implications were drawn. There is a granter need of family support services,
Mentor, Supportive boss and time consideration in order to help in retention of
women employee.
The paper also reports the opinions of Human
Resource Managers of the five star hotels from which women employee have be
selected as sample HR Managers were interviewed concerning issues of Benefits of
preferring a women employee at the
customer service level and at managerial level. They opined that there are
benefits of women employee due to their greater understanding of human nature,
their, inheriting quality of being patience are preferred in Customer Service
areas by front line operations at the managerial level too it is advantages to
have her due to her interpersonal coordinating skill and her democratic style
of leadership, which is the need of the hour to in people management.
The HR managers were
interviewed concerning issue of human resource management practice regarding
women friendly strategies that help n retention. The study reports their views
on why they believed that their women employee face problems at work and of
what type. And how the hotel has formulated certain strategies to take care of
the retention of women employee.
